CORE CURRICULUM SUMMARY

The Pai Lum Tai Chi Group's core curriculum is based on the traditional Chinese Boxing systems developed by Great Grandmasters Daniel K Pai and Hsu Fun Yen, transmitted through Grandmaster Robert Skaling-Pai (d.2014). The Traditional Forms that make up PLTCG's core curriculum are treated as complete systems designed to develop specific skills, techniques, and strategies. Therefore, all movements and sequences are learned with multiple levels of application utility, drills, breathwork, meditations, and more. Each PLTCG Level will have an in-depth study and working proficiency.

The Pai Lum Tai Chi Group's Curriculum is a teaching curriculum. As individual practitioners progress through the foundational levels, they are encouraged to learn to teach and to teach to learn. Foundational Levels are considered 1- 4, Senior Levels 5 - 7, Master Level 8. Each level has course proficiency requirements before advancing to the next level. All Senior Levels are Required to Teach the Art to future generations.

Senior Level 8 : Master Teacher In the Pai Lum System:

Master level ranking can only be achieved through disciplined practice, teaching, and maturity. There is no minimum time requirement - although obtaining a Master Level in the Chinese Boxing Arts historically takes decades. It is not for the weak, however the rewards are great! Master Level practitioners are heads of their schools and able to evolve the system further.

Members Designation Status

The main purpose of Status Designation is to inform persons seeking instruction from the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group of a practitioner’s status so they can receive proper guidance. It also clarifies status and roles for Member Practitioners who join the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group, receive rank Level certificates, or receive “adoption” certificates. This communication is intended to support growth and expansion of the martial arts and the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group.

Currently, there are 8 recognized status categories for member practitioners in the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group System:

1. ACTIVE MEMBERS:

Active Members are in Active Status if they are enrolled in a program, attending classes, supporting a home school, and/or regularly attending seminars, workshops, online events, and other training activities hosted by or in collaboration with the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group. Those active members who wish to seek rank advancement are required to obtain rank level certification by following the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group curriculum, passing the testing requirements for each level, and remain in "Good Standing" with Master Teacher Steve Carallo, the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group Organization, and Qualified Senior Teachers. All Active Member Practitioners are Required to follow the Codes of Conduct.

2. INACTIVE OR RETIRED:

An Inactive or Retired Status represents a practitioner that is Not actively engaged with the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group, is not attending classes, seminars, or training activities, is no longer teaching or contributing to the art, or has retired from Pai Lum Tai Chi Group or Pai Lum martial arts. Inactive or Retired practitioners remain in "Good Standing" with Master Teacher Steve Carallo and LaMar Medler, with the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group, and Qualified Senior Teachers unless otherwise stated. It is the expectation of the organization that practitioners on inactive or retired status will direct persons seeking Pai Lum Tai Chi Group instruction to Active level practitioners and resources.

3. “ADOPTED GRANDCHILDREN":

In keeping with Pai Lum family martial arts custom developed by GGM Daniel K Pai, the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group may recognize Individuals as “Adopted Grandchildren” for special circumstances, contributions, or abilities at the sole discretion and authority of a Pai Lum Master Level Teacher in Active Status. “Adopted Grandchildren” will be bestowed a “Pai Lum Name” at the sole discretion of the Master Teacher who has the discretion and authority to bestow the honor. Currently only Master Teachers Steve Carallo and LaMar Medler are authorized to bestow an “adopted” status in the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group system.

To receive any support and/or assistance that may accompany an adoption honor, the “Adopted” member must be in active status member with a rank level obtained by following the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group curriculum, passing the testing requirements for each level, and remaining in "Good Standing" with Masters Teacher Steve Carallo and LaMar Medler, the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group, and Qualified Senior Teachers.

“Adopted Grandchildren” without rank level achievement are considered “HONORARY”. Those honorary “adopted grandchildren” not actively engaged in Pai Lum or the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group, are no longer contributing to the art, or have retired from the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group should assume, and are considered by the organization to be Inactive or Retired. Inactive or Retired “Adopted Grandchildren” will remain in "Good Standing" with Master Teachers Steve Carallo and LaMar Medler, the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group, and Qualified Senior Teachers unless otherwise stated.

4. GROUP LEADERS - DISTANCE LEARNING

Group Leaders are Pai Lum Tai Chi Group practitioners specifically designated by Master Teacher Steve Carallo and or a PAI LUM TCG Qualified Senior Teacher to teach the level of Pai Lum Tai Chi Group curriculum that they are certified to lead. These include Foundational levels 1- 5. The Group Leader designation is appropriate for distance training when Master Teacher Steve Carallo or a Pai Lum Tai Chi Group Qualified Senior Teacher is not regionally available. This designation requires continuous oversight and support by Master Teacher Steve Carallo and/or an associated Pai Lum Tai Chi Group Qualified Senior Teacher in good standing with the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group. Once Attainment of the Art ( level 6) is obtained the Group Leader will follow level 6 designation requirements.

5. PROGRAM INSTRUCTORS

Program Instructors are Pai Lum Tai Chi Group practitioners specifically designated by Master Teacher Steve Carallo and or a PAI LUM TCG Qualified Senior Teacher to teach specific programs at the level of Pai Lum Tai Chi Group curriculum that the Program Instructor is qualified to lead. These may include Foundational levels 1- 5 or a specialized program. The Program Instructor designation is appropriate for specific programs intended for specific audiences including seniors, veterans, churches, etc. Once Attainment of the Art ( level 6) is obtained the Program Instructor will follow level 6 designation requirements.

6. ATTAINMENT OF THE ART - Level 6

Attainment of the Art Level 6 practitioners are recognized, with the approval of their associated Qualified Senior Teacher and/or Master Teacher Steve Carallo or LaMar Medler, to provide workshop, seminar, and special program teaching of the complete Pai Lum Tai Chi Group level system 1-6 independently. Since every effort is made by the PAI LUM TCG Organization to guide and assist individuals at Attainment of the Art Level 6 towards attaining Qualified Senior Teacher status Level 7 in good standing, Attainment of the Art Level 6 individuals teaching Pai Lum Tai Chi Group program and curriculum are expected to maintain continuous oversight from their respective Pai Lum Tai Chi Group Qualified Senior Teachers in good standing or Master teachers Steve Carallo or LaMar Medler.

7. QUALIFIED SENIOR TEACHER (QST) - Senior Level 7

Qualified Senior Teachers in the Pai Lum TCG have attained the highest level in the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group Curriculum. Qualified Senior Teachers are recognized to lead schools, workshops, seminars, and special program teaching the complete Pai Lum TCG level system independently and test students in levels 1-5. They are considered legacy guardians and are expected to maintain the organizational standards as related to curriculum consistency, teaching, testing requirements, testing procedures, seminars, programs, and related organizational activities. The Qualified Senior Teacher status cannot be reached without bringing students to successfully test at the Attainment of the Art level 6.

Currently, level Assessments 6 & 7 will be conducted directly under Master Teachers Steve Carallo & LaMar Medler.

7A. CONTINUATION OF THE ART - QST’s

In an effort to maintain Pai Lum Tai Chi Group Instruction at the highest professional level, a CE program will be the expectation for Active level QST's. Pai Lum Tai Chi Group COA is a commitment to professional competence through lifelong learning, knowledge and professional growth in Pai Lum Tai Chi Group. A primary focus of COA participation is to maintain teaching and skill at the highest level reasonably possible. Currently, the COA program is on the Honor system for each QST. There are wide options for participating in the COA program. The intent is not to make the process cumbersome, unduly time demanding or expensive. The COA activity requires the process for each individual be specific to Pai Lum Tai Chi Group. Recommendations and examples would include participation in ongoing specific Pai Lum Tai Chi Group teaching, instruction, practice, training, testing, seminars, etc. or other professional development that alignswith the mission and goals of the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group. Individuals can return to Active QST status upon resumption of the COA process and participation in the organization.

8. MASTER TEACHER - Level 8

Qualified Senior Teachers Level 7 in the Pai Lum Tai Chi Group that have gone beyond expectation and duty, are in good standing, and have produced a minimum of 3 QSTs Level 7 are eligible for Master Teacher Designation. Currently, only Steve Carallo and LaMar Medler are authorized to Award Master Level 8 within the PLTCG system.
